Photography Notes from Bowen Island, B.C.
In October of 1998 I traveled to Vancouver, B.C. for the Oopsla ’98 conference (Conference on Object-Oriented Programming, Systems, Languages, & Applications). It was a fantastic trip, and while I was there for work I took days before and after the conference to explore Vancouver and the surrounding area. I was twenty-three-years-old at time and instead of a rental car I walked or took buses everywhere. One morning I took a bus from my hotel overlooking the harbor to the ferry going to Bowen Island. I spent the day hiking around Crippen Regional Park and taking pictures. I was shooting professional slide film which was the norm at the time and shot many rolls on that trip. Looking back though, I wish I had taken so many more! Many pictures from that trip were licensed in the years after, some up to 10 years later.
